A bit of history

Clamp fittings trace their origins to a small American company in Wisconsin, Tri-Clover, founded in 1919 by three partners (Thompson, Jensen and Hinrichs), with a clover as its emblem.

The company expanded its production of plumbing fittings in the 1930s and invented the Clamp fitting as we know it today, with its two ferrules, clamp and seal.

In 1953, Tri-Clover was acquired by Ladish, which registered the Tri-Clamp® trademark in 1955. In 1991, the Alfa Laval Group became the owner of Tri-Clover® and Tri-Clamp®.

One fitting, several standards

The Clamp fitting has been adopted by industry worldwide and is available in several connection standards. Care should be taken to note the diameter of the tubular part of the ferrule, as this determines which standard is used.

The external diameter (OD) of the ferrule head is standardised, regardless of the standard, and the diameter of the Clamp collar depends on the ferrule head. The seal also depends on this diameter.

Ferrules are available in various lengths and diameters, and there are different types of clamp (double or single joint, standard or non-threading nut, stainless steel or ceramic-coated).

Ferrule head diameters: 25 mm, 34 mm, 50.5 mm, 64 mm, 91 mm, 106 mm, 119 mm

SMS tube diameters: 25 mm, 38 mm, 51 mm, 63.5 mm, 76.1 mm, 104 mm

DIN tube diameters : 23 mm, 29 mm, 35 mm, 41 mm, 53 mm, 70 mm, 85 mm, 104 mm

ISO tube diameters : 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm, 13.5 mm, 17.2 mm, 18 mm, 21.3 mm, 26.9 mm, 33.7 mm, 42.4 mm, 48.3 mm, 60.3 mm, 76 mm

ASME tube diameter: 12.75 mm, 19.05 mm, 25.4 mm, 38.1 mm, 50.8 mm, 63.5 mm, 76.2 mm, 101.6 mm
